We Need Volunteers!
There are only three
part time paid positions within USERL. Otherwise, the organization is completely run and sustained by volunteer efforts. Equine
investigations, seizures, care, and fundraising could not happen, and USERL would not exist, without community support and
dedication. With your help, we can put an end to equine negligence and abuse.
Who can
volunteer for USERL?
There is a volunteer
opportunity for everyone at USERL. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult during volunteer activities,
but are encouraged to participate. Everyone must sign a waiver prior to volunteering. Horse experience is recommended, but
not required.
What do
USERL volunteers do?
Barn
Help- Mucking, feeding, and grooming are often necessary at USERL quarantine
and foster farms.
Information Booths-
Here volunteers answer questions, sell merchandise, collect donations, and educate the community about USERL efforts.
Fundraising
Activities- This includes participating in concession
booths, fun shows, trail rides, benefit dinners, auctions, yard sales, and selling raffle tickets to name just a few.
Office
Work- This includes data entry, mailings, phone calls, printing, web searches,
and graphic art, for example.
Manage and Coordinate Other Volunteers- There is always the need for volunteers to take on leadership roles.
Facility
Checks – Prior to horses being fostered or adopted, and annually after
approval, volunteers review and report on USERL equine facilities.
Investigations/Seizures- USERL offers a bi-annual National Investigations course to train volunteers, animal control, and
law enforcement in the how and why of equine investigation.
Transportation- Transporting equine is necessary
when they first come to USERL and when they need to be moved from one foster home to another.
Marketing- There are often USERL flyers to be posted or handed out at various locations in your area.
